With over 30 years in the industry, she has built a name through award-winning collections and national showcases. Her work blends couture craftsmanship with a rebellious, artistic edge — creating distinctive, one-of-a-kind pieces that celebrate individuality, community and a life lived in full colour.

KARENMONKKLIJNSTRA prides herself in creating a variety of both bespoke and commercial offerings steeped in quality and age old traditions, coming from a long line of couturiers. She believes wholeheartedly in the power of collaboratives often choosing local community based upliftment oriented enterprises to partner with, thereby creating opportunities for smaller businesses and those society tends to forget. She has a keen eye for detail, celebrates local in every sphere and has a unique and lateral approach to fashion and life in general.

KARENMONKKLIJNSTRA stands on the cusp of unveiling her latest collection, “KMK KIMONO,” at SAMW/WOF A/W 2026. Derived from ki (“wear”) and mono (“thing”) — a “thing to wear” — this unisex pop culture collection embodies her design ethos. A fusion of street couture and timeless craft, it layers old with new through vintage upcycling and striking, versatile pieces. To own a KARENMONKKLIJNSTRA original is to own ART.
